Common terms

Mosaic
A larger final image made by combining several overlapping panels.
Panel
One source image that covers only part of the final stitched scene.
Overlap
The region shared by neighboring panels. Strong overlap is essential for reliable matching.
Alignment
The process of placing panels in the correct shared position for the final mosaic.
Registration
A related term for bringing images into the same geometric relationship.
Blending
The step that merges panel boundaries so transitions appear smoother and less obvious.
Seam
A visible boundary between panels that can appear when alignment or tonal consistency is weak.
Metadata
Information stored with an image file that can help describe or organize the inputs.
Bit depth
The amount of tonal precision stored per pixel. Higher bit depth can preserve more subtle gradation.
Monochrome
An image represented without full color channels, often important in solar or lunar workflows.
Resolution
The level of spatial detail in the source or final output image.
Output canvas
The final image area into which all aligned panels are placed and rendered.
